We have new information on the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie that is slated for 2016 release, the plot will indeed take place after the series finale, and before the start of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX.
Yes my hunch was right that the movie will take place following the Ceremonial Battle arc after Atem (aka Yami Yugi) left the world of the living following his final duel against his former partner / vessel, Yugi. This is also confirms that Kazuma Shunsuke and Tsuda Kenjiro will indeed reprise their roles as Yugi Mutou and Seto Kaiba from the original Duel Monsters series respectively.
“It feels great being able to collaborate with Mr. Tsuda on so many anime and game works. The first time I worked with him was when I was 17 years old, and after so many years, it’s still my greatest pleasure being able to duel with him in the best way possible.”, says Kazuma in an interview over at Cinema Today.
Its also confirms that Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi will indeed be doing the character designs for the movie. Check out the sketch art of Yugi and Kaiba below. Although there is no further information as of yet about the movie's plotline or if the movie will get an overseas release.
