Bad news for Rurouni Kenshin fans, its author Nobuhiro Watsuki got arrested for possession of child pornography material.
Japanese publisher Shueisha that currently publishes the new Rurouni Kenshin manga, Hokkaido Arc has announced that it will be on hiatus due to Watsuki's arrest charges. The new chapter of the manga will no longer run in Shueisha's Jump SQ. Magazine as of the January 2018 issue, (which will be out on December 4) as the publisher takes this matter very seriously and added that it has not yet made a decision on what to do with Watsuki's manga volumes that are already in print. Watsuki on the other hand, expresses his regret over the issue.
Watsuki first launched Rurouni Kenshin manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1994, spanning of 28 Tankobon volumes. The manga has more than 60 million copies in print, and it adapted into an Anime TV series, movie, OVA and 2 Live action films. He and his wife, Kaoru Kurosaki began on a new story called the Hokkaido arc (aka Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Hokkaido-hen) which published in Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine since September.
